GCSE success at Fitzalan
Another very successful year for Fitzalan students, with a large number gaining A* and A grades. Once again 100% of pupils will be leaving with a recognised qualification. Most pupils gained top grades and will stay on to study in our sixth form next year.
The pupils’ success is a direct result of their hard work, the support of their parents and the dedication of the teachers.
Congratulations to all.
A Level Results

Fitzalan pupils have once again excelled themselves. This year our A Level results show a 100% increase in the number of A grades with four pupils gaining the new A* grade.
Many of the pupils gaining the top grades are now able to take up their places on much sought after courses such as Medicine, Pharmacy and Engineering at some of Britain’s top universities.
Congratulations also to the candidates who entered the Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification for the first time this year. 87% of those who entered, passed, gaining the equivalent of an A grade.
The number of pupils staying on in the 6th form at Fitzalan continues to grow and this year’s excellent results will encourage the younger pupils to take up the opportunity of Post 16 study at Fitzalan.
Well done to all the pupils and staff.
Bullace Hill
On Thursday 8th July a group of Year 7 and 8 pupils visited the Bullace Hill Living History Event. Bullace Hill is a farm that has been returned to the 16th/17th century, with realistic buildings, authentic farming techniques and animals. The pupils assisted with spinning wool, helped thatch a pig sty with bracken, gathered hay and kneaded bread in the bake house. They also learnt about dyeing wool (and the rather yucky ingredients used), preparing 16th/17th century style food in the farmhouse, how to make butter and cheese, making charcoal in the woods and very excitingly they met the saltpetre man (gunpowder maker) who fired his musket. It was a thoroughly interesting visit and the pupils were a credit to Fitzalan and asked lots of very clever questions.
Welsh Hawking Centre visit

Our English class visited the Welsh Hawking Centre in Barry.
We went to the Hawking Centre so that we could have something to write about in English.
The first thing I saw was an owl that was very big and had bright orange eyes, they can see in the night and day.
Some birds wore leather hoods to keep them calm. The Peregrine Falcon was the bird which we all took in turns to have land on the leather glove.
It was absolutely amazing to have a wild bird land on your arm; I was surprised how heavy it was. We watched the sparrow hawk it was trying to catch the lure it dived down at 260 mps.
Now we are back in English lessons we have lots of work to do and it is more interesting writing about our trip.
