Royal College Of Nursing, Nursing Cadet Scheme

During the academic year 2021-2022 Fitzalan was the first school in Wales to offer and complete The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Prince of Wales Nursing Cadet Scheme. The scheme provides a great opportunity for the nursing cadets to gain valuable insight into health and social care settings, offer personal and professional development opportunities whilst preparing the cadets to work in a health care setting.

The foundation programme was delivered to 19 Year 12 nursing cadets over six months whereby they increased their knowledge and understanding on key topics such as equality and diversity, infection and prevention control, teamwork, wellbeing and resilience, first aid, dementia care, confidentiality, duty of care and person-centred approach and careers.

During the summer holidays, the nursing cadets completed their health care setting placement within the Cardiff and Vale health board.  All cadets thoroughly enjoyed their experience with the health care professionals and appreciated the time and effort that was given to them to ensure they had the best experience possible to assist them with their future careers especially when applying for university this academic year.
