Year 7 & Year 8 Geography - Grangetown to Grown Up In Project

On Thursday 2nd February 2023, a group of Year 7 and Year 8 pupils attended a ‘Grangetown to Grow Up In’ launch event at Grange Pavilion.

The current Year 7 pupils had worked with university lecturers from the School of Geography and Planning at Cardiff University last year when they attended Ninian Park Primary School in Year 6.  The lecturers were Dr. Tom Smith (senior lecturer in human geography), Dr. Matluba Khan (lecturer in urban design), Dr. Neil Harris (lecturer senior lecturer in statutory planning) and Miss. Shoruk Nekeb (community engagement assistant).

The Year 8 pupils worked with the same lecturers at Fitzalan when they were in Year 7.  All pupils have used a number of maps to locate features found throughout Grangetown such as transport links, open green spaces, sport facilities etc. and have provided suggestions on how such features/facilities can be improved for members of the local community.

Members of Cardiff County Council as well as Cardiff University attended the launch event and listened to the pupil's suggested improvements.
