Year 9 GCSE Creative Art class had the opportunity to take part in some workshops at Cardiff Met School of Art & Design.
âThe group were taken through a Fine Art mixed media and paint workshop by two âMasters students, who used their own work as contextual reference, which was âexciting to see what they were producing. It was fun and experimental and the group all came home with their work, which they can put in their portfolios.â
The next workshop was “Stop Motion Animation”. This was the workshop that wowed most of the pupils, as they got a taster of what it is like to make a mini animation and learn how they make such classic films such as Wallace and Gromit. All the pupils made mini videos using plasticine & Lego, and the university are going to forward to us their creations.â We also had a talk by the Head of Fashion and her colleague, explaining about the courses on offer and all the possible careers that you could use the degree with. One of the lecturers still works in the film industry, so has met quite a lot of famous people in her role in the wardrobe department!â
We ended the day with a tour of all the studios and got a glimpse of what the students were working on. There are more than 15 disciplines of art courses available such as: Illustration, ceramics artist makers, architecture, fine art, fashion and textiles to name a few, which really opened up the group's eyes to the myriad of possibilities a creative degree could offer them. â
The day was a complete success. The pupils behaved fantastically and fully embraced the opportunity - they cannot wait to go again!â
