SHARE With School visit to History Department

On Tuesday 18th March, the SHARE With Schools team from Cardiff University visited the Fitzalan history department and delivered sessions about archaeological science to some of our Year 7 classes.

The activity was very ‘hands on’ and pupils had to identify characters such as the Amesbury Archer, a long bowman from the Mary Rose, a Roman soldier and interestingly an Iron Age woman who’s grave was discovered in Cardiff.  The identification involved the use of methods including DNA, strontium samples and artefacts associated with the burials.  Our Year 7 classes thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and it was fantastic to see them engaging with archaeology, with the help of experts.

Later in the summer, we hope to visit the history and archaeology department at Cardiff University and also a real archaeological excavation.
