YEAR 9 SCHOOL OF GEOGRAPHY AND PLANNING AT CARDIFF UNIVERSITY

Miss. I. Harris organised for a group of year 9 girls to participate in a two-day workshop led by lecturers at the School of Geography and Planning at Cardiff University to include Jessica Richmond (researcher), Dr. Matluba Khan (lecturer in urban design), Dr. Sina Shahab (senior lecturer in planning and land policy) and Edie Morris (student).

The workshop was part of a year-long research project, which focuses on how teenage girls experience the local parks in Cardiff. The pupils completed a site visit to Sevenoaks Park where they identified what facilities the park currently offers and began to discuss what could be added to the park to make it more appealing to teenage girls. The pupils then designed and made models of the features which they would like to see in a local park such as sociable seating areas and a wider variety of sport facilities.

Behaviour was excellent and the visitors were highly complementary on how enthusiastic the students were throughout both workshop days.
